5 Ways to Prepare for Back to School Now

I know it’s not even halfway through August, but it’s time to start thinking about back to school!

In fact, now is the PERFECT time to start thinking about it because there are many ways you can prepare now, so you won’t feel so stressed and unorganized come September.

Below are 5 great little ways you can get ready for back to school this month!

Plan Your Morning Routine – If you’re been home with your kids this summer, chances are; your morning routine is a little more relaxed than it is during the school year. My guys have been sleeping in a lot more, which is awesome, but in a few weeks…not so awesome! So, before that first day of school hits, start planning your school morning routine. What time does everyone need to get up in order to eat breakfast, get ready and get out the door or on the bus? Are you making lunches the night before or in the morning? It’s good to have a game plan in place.

Get Bedtime on Track – Kids still going to bed super late? Unless you’re prepared to deal with SUPER grumpy kids every morning, it’s time to start implementing an earlier bedtime NOW. You don’t have to do it all at once, but maybe slowly start making bedtime earlier and earlier as we inch towards back to school time. It will make things a little bit easier come September!

Do a Little Summer Reading – During the school year, our guys always read for a half hour before bed. But routines change a bit in the summer with baseball two or three nights a week, and sometimes we hit the drive-in and before you know it…it’s August and they haven’t picked up a book in over a month! Not ideal. So, start making reading time a priority again so they’re prepared (and maybe even ahead of the game!) for back to school.

Make a School Supplies List – Don’t know what they need? Ask when the school opens a week or two before the first day of school or ask a fellow Mom friend who has already had a child in that grade. Do they need markers or pencil crayons…or both? Pencils and erasers? Headphones? Binders? It’s always good to have an idea of what they need before school starts so you’re not scrambling later.

Start Back-to-School Shopping – A lot of us wait until the we’re closer to the start of school before we go out shopping for new back to school clothes and shoes. But let me tell you, if you wait until the week before school starts…those shoe racks will be BARE! Instead, make a list of what you need and maybe grab a few things here and there in the weeks leading up to school. You’ll be much more prepared, and more likely to find the items you want before they sell out!

September can be a chaotic time of year, so planning ahead is a MUST! I hope these tips help you tackle the new school year a little more prepared and organized! If you have any helpful back to school tips, please feel free to share them in the comments below.
