The hot toddy has been the favorite hot drink to warm up with during the coldest Fall and Winter months. Some people even swear hot toddy’s even help stave off those illnesses that plague us during those times and keep us healthy. I’m not convinced on that part, but I still enjoy indulging in a hot boozy drink from time to time. They are great to warm me up when it’s chilly outside!
This year, I decided to make a twist on the traditional hot toddy and created this Spiced Apple Toddy. It’s full of the season’s delicious apple flavors with just enough spice notes to balance it all out. A steamy mug of Fall deliciousness if you ask me!
Spiced Apple Toddy Recipe
*This recipe serves 2.
4 oz Spiced Rum
2.5 cups Spiced Apple Cider
Honey, as desired
dried cloves
dried star anise
cinnamon stick
sliced apples
orange peel
In a small/medium pot, heat together your spiced rum, apple cider (I like the one from our local apple farm), cloves, star anise, sliced apples and orange peel. Add in as much or as little honey as you desire. Heat until steamy but not boiling. Pour into mugs and garnish with a cinnamon stick for stirring.
This recipe serves 2 people but feel free to double or even triple it for family and friends! My favorite apple cider is from the local apple orchard here. I like supporting local businesses and encourage you to do the same. But, if you don’t have a local farm nearby, feel free to pick up some apple cider at the grocery store. Spiced apple cider works best since this is a spiced apple toddy but the spices that we add in will give it extra flavor too.
Getting together with friends and laughing over mugs of this Spiced Apple Toddy is a great way to stave off those winter blues!
Let us know if you try it! Have a happy and cozy Fall and Winter!
