Both my parents were teachers. There were lots of benefits to that, but you know what the BEST part was? That last day of school when they returned home with arms full of gifts from students. If you had asked me back then what the best gifts were, I would have said all the chocolate. But the actual teachers may have a different opinion. Here’s what I now think they REALLY want:

Nothing

These people are pretty much cyborgs because they ACTUALLY don’t have expectations. They love what they do, which makes sense because I believe you could not SURVIVE this career if you didn’t. Most teachers just love to hear from a student that they made a difference. I know…..we should all feel like sub-humans in comparison. I say screw the praise and bring me some presents! This might be why I’m not a teacher.

Gift Cards

I’m not even kidding – you have NO idea of how much money teachers spend out of their own pockets every year for their students. Whether it be for snacks, crafts or clothing, teachers are stepping up ALL the time to cover kids whose parents can’t. When the school board won’t, they dig into their own pockets. Yes, they’re pretty much Saints.

Wine

I know you think your kid is awesome, but anyone who is willing to spend a year with him or her deserves ALL the wine. The teachers of my kids deserve (and likely need) a crate of wine. I recently attending a Strut event that was hosted at a beautiful winery that had so many delicious and sensibly priced options. So send in a bottle and tell them to kick back. Maybe even suggest they do your kiddo’s report card AFTER consuming their gift.

The Glam Bookmark that Gives Back

My super-fun entrepreneurial friend, Monica, always gives back to our community. She created the Glamjulz “My Favourite Subject Bookmark as an awesome teacher gift. For each bookmark sold, five hungry bellies get filled through the wonderful organization Halton Food for Thought. I love that two of my fave local organizations came together to celebrate teachers and help students in this way.
