Isn’t it amazing how different two siblings can be? They’ve been raised in the same house, by the same two parents, with the same rules & expectations, yet they are oh-so very different in so many ways, particularly when it comes to being tidy and organized.
As parents, we accumulate A LOT of stuff. Sometimes it feels like the house is being taken over by kid’s toys, clothes, shoes, backpacks, electronics, homework and in the case of our house…random socks. Most people apparently lose socks, but I keep finding socks all over our house. I found one the other day IN the couch AND in the middle of the bathroom floor. I didn’t even ask my son for an explanation. (Did he not realize he was missing a sock?!) I didn’t even ask WHICH son! We all have that ONE child, right?
The point is, kids have a lot of stuff, and we’re forever trying to find homes for everything. They get new stuff as birthday gifts, Christmas gifts, Easter gifts – you name it! So, when it comes to gifts for
If you’ve read pretty much ANY of my articles on The Mabelhood Blog, you know we’re all about family time in this house! To us, doing things as a family is super important. Our kids are only young for so long, and we want to make sure we make memories with them, spend time with them, and show them how important family really is. Plus, whatever we do always ends up being a whole lot of fun!
My husband and I don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day. There. I said it. We don’t plan a fancy, romantic dinner. We don’t buy each other flowers or chocolates. We just don’t do the typical lovey-dovey Valentine’s Day thing. We never have.
When people ask us if we have plans and we shrug and say no, sometimes they’ll ask why. We simply say…it’s just not for us. It’s not because we don’t love each other, we just think it’s a silly ‘holiday’. A day where you’re forced to show someone how much you love them? We just don’t get it. Honestly, I would rather my husband come home with candy on a random Tuesday in May because he
When the calendar rolls into a new year, most of us set a few goals. You know, some things we’d like to accomplish in the coming weeks, months and year. For the majority of us, eating better is somewhere on that list. Whether it’s because you want to lose a few pounds, or just be a healthier version of your awesome self…I get it. We’ve made a conscious effort in our house to eat healthier and cook our meals at home as often as possible. So, that means – planning delicious, healthy meals!
If you’ve been sticking to a pretty healthy diet so far in 2018, you might be at that point right now where you want to sink your teeth into a giant plate of nachos! Or pizza! Or a big, cheesy, goey philly cheesesteak sandwich, am I right? Well, I’m right there with you. BUT…I have a healthier version of that cheesesteak sandwich that should satisfy those cravings, and not only is it healthier…but it’s DELICIOUS!
The winter blues. Those feelings that creep up in the middle of winter and sometimes…we just can’t shake ‘em. They can be a very real thing for some people. Winter is cold, filled with snow, and depending on where you live – A LOT of darkness. Plenty of people feel a little down during the winter months due to being stuck inside more, or not dealing with the cold very well. But I say…winter blues can take a hike! (You can literally take a winter hike if you want! That will help too!)
I grew up LOVING Christmas. I still do! There’s just something about the holiday season that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. I’m like a happy little snowflake this time of year. My husband, on the other hand, is what I like to call a grumpy elf – and he fully admits it! He’s never been a huge fan of Christmas, but I feel like I’m slowly turning him into a lover of all things festive. He might disagree, but the Christmas lights, candy canes and inflatable Santa, Frosty and Mickey Mouse on our front lawn that I had absolutely nothing to do with…tell me otherwise.
At this time of year, I’m always reminded of how lucky we are. We’re lucky to have loving family and friends to spend the holidays with. We’re lucky to have food on the table, a roof over our heads and warm clothes to wear. And we’re especially lucky to have beautifully wrapped presents under the tree on Christmas.
