Back in November, the streaming service we’d all been waiting for made its debut…and we’ve all been obsessed ever since. Disney+ (or Disney Plus) is all the rage, and kids are loving it! Okay, let’s be honest; parents might be loving it even more. I mean, come on, it has all OUR favourite Disney shows and movies from our childhood! At launch, the long-anticipated streaming service had over 500 movies and 7,500 TV episodes available, so there was no denying that it was bound to have something for every member of the family to enjoy. When I added Chip & Dale Rescue Rangers to our watch list, let’s just say it wasn’t for the boys…even though I told them it was.
So, since it’s the middle of winter and we all tend to cuddle up inside a lot more, I thought I’d do a little research and find out what families are watching and loving on Disney Plus! After polling a fair amount of my mom and dad friends, the list below is what kids (and parents!) are obsessed with right now. Maybe yours are, too! But if you haven’t jumped on the Disney Plus bandwagon yet, this list is full of great ideas for your whole family to start bingeing on this winter:
Disney TV Series
Good Luck Charlie – Our boys haven’t watched this one, but MANY of my parent friends have suggested it. It’s a series following the life of a typical family after the arrival of baby sister, Charlie. I think we might check this one out!
Vampirina – My 5-year-old niece is a big fan of this Disney Junior show. It’s about vampire, Vee, as she learns how to live in the human world after moving to Pennsylvania from Transylvania.
Gravity Falls – This is another one we haven’t watched but I was told by a few different people that their kids love it. It follows twins, Dipper and Mabel, who live with their eccentric uncle for a summer in – you guessed it – Gravity Falls!
Disney Movies
Aladdin – The live-action version was just recently added to Disney+ and fans are cheering! We saw this one in theatre and really enjoyed it. If you haven’t checked it out yet, make it your next family movie night. Will Smith does a pretty great job as Genie.
The Marvel Series – Marvel fans are LOVING Disney Plus, my husband and boys included! Avengers, Captain Marvel, Thor, Ant-Man, Guardians, Iron Man – all your favourite superheroes are on there. Marvel marathon anyone?
Avatar – I’ll admit, I haven’t seen this one, but it’s gotta be good if Walt Disney World built an entire land based on it, right? Avatar takes you to the amazing world of Pandora and just a heads up, it has a PG-13 rating. So, you might want to do some research before deciding if it’s a good fit for your kiddos.
Disney+ Originals
The Imagineering Story – This was one of the first things I watched when we got Disney+. I’m pretty much in love with Disney Parks, so being able to go behind the scenes to see how it all started with Walt and how it’s grown into what it is today was pretty amazing. A great documentary series!
Togo – I haven’t seen this one yet, but multiple people have said how good it is. The story is set in 1925 and it’s about the true story of a champion dogsled trainer and his lead sled dog, Togo. I think I’ll be adding this one to our watchlist.
The Mandalorian – I don’t think I need to say too much about this one. Okay, maybe two words; Baby Yoda!
Disney Throwbacks
The Mighty Ducks – I loved these movies as a kid, and all three of them are on Disney+. We’ve already watched all of them and the boys absolutely love them! If you have little hockey lovers in your house, a Might Ducks marathon might be in order!
The Sandlot – Oh how I love this movie and our boys do, too! I’m pretty confident in saying that I use the phrase “You’re killing me, Smalls!” on a weekly basis. At least. If you haven’t seen this gem, watch it. With or without your kids.
All the Classics – All your classic Disney movies can be found under the “Out of the Vault” category. Pinocchio, Dumbo, Peter Pan, Snow White, Bambi – they’re all there. Even The Three Cabelleros! Classic!
Some honourable mentions include Frozen and Moana. Still VERY popular and enjoyable for everyone to watch, young and old! If you check out the “Trending” category on Disney Plus, you’ll also find that Disney fans are loving the new High School Musical series, Phineas & Ferb, and all the Toy Story movies! Is it too soon to say Disney Plus is the best streaming service…EVER?
