March 2020. A month that all of us will forever remember in our minds. It was the start of something that would change the way we live for years to come. I’m sure I’m not alone when I say that it feels like this pandemic has been going on for so long that I have a hard time remembering what life was like pre-pandemic. You know, not wearing masks everywhere. Not worrying about staying six feet apart. Seeing family and friends whenever we want and not thinking twice about it. Those were the days, right? So much has changed since then, including the way we talk. I mean, if you would have told me back in 2019 that terms like ‘social distancing’, ‘self-isolate’, and ‘lockdown’ would become the norm, I probably would have thought you were crazy. Let’s be honest, April is a pretty awesome month! We celebrate warmer weather, longer days, and most years, we get to celebrate Easter in April as well. It’s also the first full month of Spring and most people are filled with a little more optimism and joy. So, that makes April a great month to have a baby and celebrate their birthday, too!

It could be asked by your spouse over text, it could be a question you silently ask yourself mid-afternoon when you realize you forgot to plan something, or it could be asked by your 10-year-old when he hops out of bed at 7am because he needs to know what the day has in store for him. I was born less than a month before Christmas, and my brother was born less than a month after Christmas. Growing up I always remember my parents commenting on how it can sometimes be frustrating having children born so close to the biggest holiday of the year. In my case, they were planning Christmas gifts but also had to buy me a birthday gift around the same time. In my brother’s case, they had to buy him a gift right after he already received everything he ever wanted!
By now, I’m sure we’ve all heard about Montessori schools and Montessori-style parenting. If you’re not familiar, the Montessori method of education is for children of all ages and levels and includes a lot of hands-on learning and practical life skills. This style of parenting has become very popular over the last few years and with everything going on in our world right now, it will likely become even more popular.
As a hockey parent, there is nothing I love more than watching my boys play the sport they love. I love watching them give it their all out on the ice and since both of our boys are forwards, we get to watch them score goals too!
Raising good little humans. That’s the long-term plan of all parents, right?
